The Rising Dictator Mr Mohamed Nasheed

Just a day before the President Nasheed took his oath he gave an interview to the foreign media about investing money for buying a land for the Maldivians. Again, another story has stretched across the world media about Maldives. After hundred days of his presidential term he tuned his mind into zero carbon emission schemes.

Mohamed Nasheed announced over the weekend that Maldives would be carbon-neutral within a decade. As we all know, rising sea levels are a huge problem for Maldives string of coral reefs islands.

Besides, he came to power promising to the Maldivians for affordable housing and food prices, better medical service, abolishing illegal drugs and transport network with many other fantasy dreams. Without fulfilling the promised basic needs he is talking about multibillion dollar projects, even if there is considerable insufficiency of public and foreign investments for such projects. Often he sounds very much like our Father of Environment. Before came into power he made tell tales of the previous regime’s environmental schemes and convinced to the public that the basic needs are more important than the environment.

Marine ecologist, Professor Richard Kenchington discussed on the ABC Radio National-Late Night Live programme on how the health of the coral reefs is instrumental to the future of the Maldives. In his twenty minute interview, he talked about the viability and practicability of Nasheed’s zero carbon neutral schemes. Asking the question of the practicality of this project the professor vaguely agreed that it could be plausible with sufficient capital investment. Further, he credited Maumoon for his long term environmental policy and action plan which he embarked on nationwide to educate the wider community.

The ac Environmental Contributor suggests that Nasheed is not a man who worries about the environment but he is a man who is looking for a greater publicity and getting famous to win the next election. In their manifesto environmental dilemma was not a significant issue but their major agenda was on the transport network. “What I believe is that if he is going for zero carbon emission schemes then he has to transform his transport network plan into carbon free medium to label as the first country for zero carbon-neutral” ac Environmental Contributor said. The MDP manifesto brashly discredited the previous regime’s environmental scheme and declared that the regime was using this delicate issue for political rationale and dominance of power.

Who is politicizing and indoctrinating the environmental issue now? Does that sounds to you right? He sounds like our previous Father of Environment? Again, a new Father of Environment is born within us with significant environmental acquaintance and future plans. Nasheed is colouring the same page but with yellow colour with similar agenda just to rule out the nation for limitless timeframe to advocate slavery and to rob the state funds.
