Nasheed a bonehead idiot or just trying to be smart

The president of Maldives delivered a so called speech at the inaugural ceremony of the Maldives Partnership Forum III in Bandos Island Resort on the 23rd of March 2009.

The speech was absolute rubbish where a primary school boy can do much better than him. Undenaibly, if someone bothers to ask a question from the attended foreign delegates, we guess, they wouldn't have a clue of his portrayed discourse. As a matter of fact, the real speech was given to him in writing but the genius man thought he can deliver the speech better than what he was offered. He started his speech by saying that he has given a speech to read but he prefered to have talk to make it bit better. Following that he made a statement with his absurd mind, “Sorry for inviting you to this gloomy party.”

We thought it was a forum rather a gloomy party and if it would have been a party then why would he felt sorry for his invitations? Then, he started making statements of the problems we faced today in the Maldives from drug abuse to wife beating and Islamic fundamentalism. With that he thanked the foreign delegates by disregarding the real recipients of the reform agenda whilst highlighting that the ambassadors, diplomats are the one who assisted of the reform process in the country.

It is very confusing to grasp something constructive from his so called talk and in short it was a mess. He said that the previous regime attempted to win the hearts and minds by delivering favours upon the people. He went on to saying that he was selling something totally different and he was selling freedom, human rights, free expression and a good life. “And we didn’t, therefore, quite have to find all these material things to win” he said. Besides, with his redicule mind, he tried to explain to the audience that the victory of the election put him in a difficult position where the norms of the election promises were inherited from the previous regime; all the harbours, all the drainages, all the extra classrooms and the health centres. Mr Nasheed, your manifesto was the holly book during the election and it was portrayed as one of the sacred text symbolising seven flowers as followers were referenced in every mass gathering during the election. We pledge the readers to reference the holly yellow text to find what is revealed in the chapters and its verses.

It is quite ambiguous to figure it out where he was going on with his freelance dialogue. As if things were happened today, we remember his tone of voice when he delivered his bold speeches in the streets of the Capital and the Islands. We still remember his economic visions of this country. We remember his convincement about how wealthy the country was with the tourism dollar. But now, his tone is very irrational and irreconcilable by stating that government does not have the money to support its people.

With his indirect approach to the audience he said that the regime is going to trade-off the country’s infrastructure and public service sector to the interested foreign investors to fulfil his promises without knowing the gravity of the matter. However, we have seen similar systems in other foreign countries but their foreign investment opportunities come with well researched balanced constitutional framework rather just selling the assets in the redundant market. As far as Maldivian concerns he is bringing some changes into the existing systems with unsystemetic approach against the Maldivian constitutional framework.

Just to name a few, we all know that his decision to inaugurate an out of date Parliament whose terms have expired long ago is unconstitutional. He had selfishly delayed the election with his desperate bid to win the parliamentary election for his party members, as he states by directly influencing the election, has led to postponing of the election.

Further, he moved on with the domestic problems and difficulties which he faced on his presidency. This is what he has to say about the quandary of his presidency. “This is where I worry. Not the economy. To hold on to this thing. And everyday I have to come out, everyday I’m on the telephone, everyday I have to beg these people please don’t do this. Don’t go court. Don’t go out on the streets. Don’t do that. Let the regime, let the past be past. But when they see it fit to prosecute the leader of our parliamentary group it’s getting almost impossible. So this business of smooth transfer of power is the most difficult thing I have ever faced. I’m not an experienced man, but in my limited experience, this is the most difficult thing that I have has to do. I beg Gayoom to move back

Mr President! We thought you were quite capable and experienced and we thank you for mentioning that into your audience. Therefore, most of us have made our minds not to vote you and your inexperienced party to fall into a trap that you are harvesting on.

Nasheed expressed that “None of us want to go ahead with a witch hunt. None of us want to prosecute him or the former regime.” Mr President, we thought everyone wants the court order but isn’t the opposite of your previous statements?

Also, It was interesting to hear that how he was trying to portrayed the country's police force but the truth is that they hate him from the very start of his repulsive political career. “The police force is far more important for us not to talk about and not to discuss. We have to change the police force. We have to change or we have to, let’s say, I don’t know a nice way of putting it, we have to train them.” Mr President! Here is the answer for that. Read from the given speech and you will find out the words how to put it in the nice way to please the police force and your audience.

He tried to touch every problem while trying to convince his foreign partners that he needs money to fulfil his promises to his people. Therefore, he tried to talk about the current gang violence in the Maldives. The matter of fact is that the so called President is still trying to understand the domestic gang violence in Maldives but in fact this is where he belongs to no matter what he believes.

I told my government to start reading more on gang warfare than anything, Westside story would be a good start. That is the romance. You have to have blood on your hands to be a gang leader. The youth have this mentality now that to be a leader you have to have blood on your hands. That is why I keep saying, you know, Westside story is a good start. We have to be able to understand the young. We have to be able to understand the gangs and the violence that goes with that. Drug dealing. Very sorry a lot of - apparently a lot of - very reputable people are at it. We have to be able to move in and address the issue. Again all this is connected to the business of smooth transfer of power. Violence, drugs, all that is apparently connected to the smooth transfer of power and if we move too robustly on drugs that would affect the smooth transfer of power. I hope you know what I mean” Nasheed said.

Mr President, we understand you very well. We have to give up the gang violence and drug issues to keep you in power for the next three decades. atollcounselor has done the good old home work for you. This is a Muslim nation and the rules and laws are there to deal with such issues. Your selfish agenda is full of you but not the poor community who suffers from this violence and criminal behaviours within the society. It is a delicate issue for you not for us. It is criminal and unjust behaviours and those who are involved need to be brought into justice whether they are reputable or ordinary citizens.

Without a doubt, now our President is old enough to slip his words and he is getting older than Maumoon within few months in the presidential chair. This is what he has to say about his flip-flop mind. “Patrice mentioned it was 1.4 million – strange it was. It was 1.4 billion! Actually in the speech, I know, by thinking back, I did say 1.4 million but it was a slip. It was 1.4 billion – the budget deficit of last year.”

Here is the answer for you Mr President. Put forward your resignation before people jump on you. We assure you that the country will be better off without your inexperience and flip-flop mind.

Further, he wants us to believe him without giving us the promised chocolates and ice creams as if the Maldivians were ignorant and forgettable minds like him.

Now, we would be asking for contributions from the people all the time. In every single instance - in water, in sewerage, in everything. And I am very confident that the people would understand this. I am very confident that the people will understand the fact that we can’t deliver all these things” Nasheed said. Mr President, why wouldn’t you tell us the fact that you cannot be delivered any promises before the presidential election? It is not the time to tell us the bed time story as if we were kindergarten kids.

In the end, his poetic rhythm of speech was very interesting. This is what he has to say about the MIFCO “...In a sense, we now want to stop hunting and start farming. We fish one by one. Our fishermen are convinced that they can fish more this way. There is no point in discouraging them. But, we fish one by one and we will continue to fish one by one.” Almost we felt asleep with that nursery rhyme. Mr President, again, thank you for the bed time story and it was well delivered and sounds like Dr Martin Luther King. But instead, will you mind to stop that crap for god sake?

With additional tone, he went on agriculture as if he has done so much to the industry. “Agriculture – we have spent so much on research on agriculture. There are many facilities that we have many research islands and many very good hydroponics projects and very hot chillies, very good in fact.” Of course, you have done a good research on the field of agriculture by tasting hot chillies.

He does not want to stop but he went on with his fantasy dream by convincing the audience that he will clutch the majority of the parliament and grip more power to deliver the undelivered. He said that “We are a formidable government. It would be very, very difficult to shake us off. We will, hopefully, continue winning. We will win a majority in the parliamentary elections. We will, hopefully, win a majority in the local elections coming soon.” Mr President, you can dream as like before but be mindful that your previous dreams were coloured by the multiparty alliance not by yourself. So far, the history tells us that your party has been failed each and every election you have been fought. The last election result would be a good reference point to figure it out the outcome of your foreseeable dream.

Furthermore, he reminds his foreign colleagues his fantasy dream of the carbon neutral country. “I should finish. But there is my main crunch, my fundamental issue –carbon neutrality. It’s very simple again. We are having to start from scratch and there is no point to going to yesterday’s technology. We can invest in tomorrow’s technology.” he said.

Mr President, your country is a speck of a speck on the world map. No one gives a damn about the carbon neutrality. But we are very eager to see your carbon neutral transport network with investment of new technologies. Also, do not forget the price tag of your carbon neutral policy without having a coin in the Federal Reserve. We do not want our future generations to be the inheritors and partners of your debt collecting entity.

So, thank you again. I hope I finish it this time. We will have a more two side engagement later on. This is just me talking. And, please have a good time in the Maldives and enjoy the night. I have been told by Deen that he will throw a party tonight in Kuda Bandos. So we will have a barbeque in Kuda Bandos. Those who have decided to leave tomorrow would also cancel their travel arrangements and have this party tonight. I think it’s very important to have this party.” Mr President, we thought you are having an official forum not a party.

As usual, he never wants to stop his filthy mind and goes on with twenty first century fear tactics saying that the Maldives is under constant pressure of Islamic fundamentalism. “Without closer engagements it’s going to be very difficult, I haven’t spoken about Islamic fundamentalism. I think you can ask me later on and I will touch upon it.” The question is that who are the delegates there in the forum (party) interested in this issue? Is that the Conservatives or just your dirty game to destruct the society with your pious agenda?

In short, the speech was very unorganised, unprofessional and preposterous dialogue but someone could deliver a well researched formal written speech to achieve the goals in such forum. It sounds like an activist with confusing tone trying to convince an illiterate audience to get the credibility. Instead, we would rather tell the foreign delegates to leave the country before the dawn without putting your life into trouble in the mismanaged island with imprudent leader. Our final word is “thank you very much and have a lovely time” as President said.

  3. yeh you are right!! it was a perfect mess and no one else could make it worse. He doesnt understand the difference between a million and a billion. Speech was so cheap, in market language. He tried to convince people too much, saying millions and billions. I have yet to ask how of the invitees were wondering if he was president?? He is a boy.

  7. The foriegn deligates were scared and some gave eyebrows, devil smiles, some even felt sleepy and wanted to escape from the trap. one foreign delegate told a frnd of mine that he is now scared to invest and would not advise anyone to invest in Maldives due to the fear. This is what he has to say about what he heard from the so called president, "He scared me about the whole environment and it seems nothing is right within the whole system...I bet he doesnt have much clue what he was talking about"

    isn't it really scary?
