Finding a new Home: Point of Discussion [ac Environmental Contributor]

One day you and I will not have a home because of the climate change. The sea will take our homes destroying everything on its path literally disappears beneath the deep ocean. The fact is that we do not have any official status of being future climate refugees in other lands. This is not an illusion but it is the terrified reality for millions of people who live on islands around the world, from the Maldives to Guinea Islands.

President Nasheed suggests that buying lands from Indian subcontinent or Australia. What if these countries say no to us? If that happens, there are only two options left to embark upon. Out of questions, option A is to die. Option B is skeptical but if our government has the potentials with fiscal and technical practicability then it can be plausible. Therefore, option B is to develop a city underneath the ocean. If this dream becomes a reality people will never considere the climate change as a threat anymore. This can be done if we have the potency and inspirations.

One of the paradigms we have seen is the famous Dubai World Village and their fascinating construction projects around the coast of Dubai. They reclaimed hundreds of islands in the Arabian Sea flanking the wilderness ambiance of nature. The projects already been built and projects under constructions have been tested under extreme weather conditions with unknown forces by means of available technology.

On the other hand, Maldives has already been built an underwater restaurant. I would say, this is a creative move born of aspiration and with that initiative we can build an underwater island for all of us where the rest (small states) will follow the initiative. The UN and global powers are passing resolution after resolution without a sound attainment. I'd say, keep those resolutions and focus on our own strategic action plan without delay.
