MNP Think Tanks

Unlike MDP and DRP the Maldivian National Party (MNP) seems to be a think tank within the political atmosphere in Maldives. The facts are not that easy to gulp by the oppositions but the New Maldives movement created a pioneering political agenda during the last presidential election. The self assured presidential candidate Dr Hassan Saeed challenged his opponents with incomparable political etiquette where the opponents never been considered during past elections in Maldives. The fact is that Dr Saeed is the very first candidate who taught his political opponents that a manifesto is one of the key ingredients of an election. This essential element is well known within other democracies around the globe but knowing that fact, he has been implied that strategy during the presidential election campaign before his rivals.

As Maldives been a very young democracy some people thought the proposal of a manifesto for an election would be nothing just a phony initiative. However, there was a group within the educated community that they thought a manifesto would amuse the voters and would change the traditional system of elections which would create competition with numerous choices for voters. Indeed, Dr Hassan Saeed has changed the traditional patterns of voting and gave multiple options for voters before they made their final decisions of the last Presidential Election.

Not only he had a manifesto, he put forwarded a feasible financial plan for his manifesto where other parties ignored during the election. “This was something very new for the Maldivian community but this is something significant for an election” said the atollcounselor’s political analyst.

Further, the MNP believes it is necessary to have a government accepted by the people and a Parliament capable of raising the people’s concerns in an efficient democratic and Presidential system of government. With his think tank minds Hassan received mass support from the public in the first round of the recent Presidential Elections, and that the currently in-power coalition received a lot of support due to their participation as well.

After the election he has created a party structure which is needed to find out what the people who supported them needed, and that the “Dhivehi Gaumee Party” is the platform to find creative ideas to mesmerize the political opponents.

“What we sold to the people is democracy. Meaning we should abandon the previous ideology and live in a democratic atmosphere. Therefore it is our responsibility to bring about what we sold to the people. It is our responsibility to make this government successful” said Dr. Shaheedh.
